Killed this buck this morning w/ .450 Bushmaster. Shot him at 65 yards broadside and he charged me w/ blood spraying heavily out of his side and fell 10 yards from stand after I put another hole in him. Both shots entered same hole and exited two inches apart. When I skinned him I found gaping holes for exit wounds and the heart had nearly been pushed out! I still can't believe he ran after two well placed hard hitting shots, but it did the job! http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs300.ash2/58053_1480988464048_1213890029_31059854_6625331_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs400.ash2/67868_1480994584201_1213890029_31059869_7453833_n.jpg

Brian- I was using Hornady factory rounds. Haven't gotten dies for reloading yet, but I've been saving the brass.

uptown1- It was killed in West Feliciana parish

Gorgeous buck!

I'm with the other guy, I can't believe it kept going after one well placed shot.

Deer are amazing critters. I have tagged over 60 deer in 20+ years of hunting, and I've regularly seen heart/lung shot deer hit with 12g slugs and 150gr 30'06 bullets do a 50+ yard "dead on their hooves" dash. Just 2 weeks ago I filled a doe tag with my 30'06. Double lung broadside. She ran full speed about 30 yards before nailing a tree and dropping.

Nice gun, nice shooting, nice buck, and nice hat!

I know what you mean. I hit a doe quartered to me at 100 yards with a 7mm Rem Mag. Nothing left inside her, I mean nothing. Bullet entered left front shoulder and came out under the right hind leg. She ran about 50 yards.

Haha that was my first hunt to wear the mad bomber rabbit fur hat (on sale $30 @ cabelas) so apparently it must be lucky (was also warm and comfortable)!  Anyways I'm running a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 Ballistic plex w/ Burris High tactical rings. Good solid setup for shooting whitetail and hogs in the 0-200 yard range. I have the 20" model...the carbine would be a lot better suited for tree stand hunting I do, but I got the rifle for such a good deal I couldn't pass it up.

Nice looking buck
When it cold enough outside watch for animal to exhale then shoot and it will drop real quick as
the oxygen for the muscles and brain are depleted.
When shot after a good inhale its like holding your breath and they can run as far as the oxygen in
the bloodstream will allow.
I gave this a test after my Grandfather told me this trick and it has always worked when its cold out.

That sounds like a great trick. I'll have to try it out soon!

lol I have a hat just like that and wore it to work last winter . the guys said I looked like a fat russian paratrooper . so do the burris rings hold good under recoil ? I recently bought a burris pepr mount and it would not hold my scope on my 458 socom , so I moved it to my rra 308 and still had issue's and I dont dare torque the screws any more..

The Burris tactical rings seem to hold zero fine with recoil. I've had them on my .308 for a few years and decided to buy some for my .450 as well. Looks like the pepr uses the same 6 torx screw configuration so you may have just gotten a bad one. I would contact Burris and see if they will replace it for you.

I have been using the Burris PEPR with a Burris 2.5-7 for a year now on my 450B and have had no problems with loosing zero.  Make sure you evenly tighten all of the screws and use lock tight.

Just came in from a short hunt on my back hillside, and this thread came up on my active topics. We have had over 30" of snow fall this week (more than 40" in a couple close towns) , and it is up over my knees in many places. It is also around 17F, and dropping in single digits tonight. Oof. Man, green grass and bare leaves are a sight for sore eyes right about now

Man, that's awesome.  I've had great results with mine as well.  If you get tired of the rabbit fur, you could always wear the "fox hat"

After a rather unsuccessful .223 hunt today I think I am going to step up to a big bore... .450 is looking like a good option. How many rounds will fit in a 20round pmag with a modified follower?

This is what's interesting; Hodgdon Lil'gun seems to be the popular powder, but Hodgdon doesn't list it on their site for anything but .410 shotgun shells. When they learn that enough of us are using it in .450Bushmaster, I guess they'll publish data.

20 rd will fit 4+1
30rd will fit 7+1

some mag floor plate, spring combos will do one more in the mag.  I use the single shot follower from bushy, it stacks on the standard follower.  I have had good results with them.  Havent tried them but the sig mags are supposed to work great with no modification.

I am not a reloader - BUT from what I have read the Hornady powder is a proprietary combination of powders which they wont share.. They wont even tell 'wildcatter' the 450b inventor/developer/creator..

The Lil'gun seems to be the closest you can come to the Hornady blend..

I get 12-13 in a 30 and 6-7 in a 20 with the same follower. Sig mags work better than factory for me...

If you do decide to take up reloading/loading, this cartridge is a great one to start with; as easy as .45 ACP

I just tried my factory 450 mag that came with the upper and can only put 5rds in there...might jam a 6th in there but it is going to put alot of stress on the lips, def wouldnt load that tight.  There is no way 7 are going in there.

A factory 450 mag has a tail on the fore and aft of the follower. A 20 round 556 mag does not. That is why they hold more than 5.

I got my upper last year, so it may be changed now. BUT if you take the floorplate off the Bushmaster mag you can see they have compressed the spring to take up enough space in the 20 rd body to limited the capacity to 5 rds..
