About to pull the trigger on a really good deal for a .450 upper. It got me wondering what all of you that have a .450 do for mags?

Did you modify one, or buy one? If you bought one, who all is selling them?

ETA: pulled the trigger, shipped out today

I'm currently using Bushmaster factory mags and I have never had a problem.  I have a couple single stack followers to modify 223 mags, but I currently don't have any stainless mags to try (they didn't work with any of the aluminum mags that I have).

Thanks for the help, i'm probably going to pick up a couple of the stoner mags from midway for now, i'll wait and see if this upper comes with one.

For those of you that are not reloading, are you using the hornady ammo? I need to decide what i want so i can order it today....

I have dies, brass and powder, but the hornady factory ammo shoots so good in mine I've yet to hand load for it.  I do want to try some different bullet weights eventually, but with sub moa groups out of the factory stuff, I just don't have any pressure to do so yet. That's been my experience.  Of course, ymmv.

Is there any reason all the .450 bushmaster ammo i'm finding from hornady is called leverloution? I'm thinking it must just be the bullet?

My upper came with one 5 round mag...your should as well if it's factory new. I bought two more mags from midwayusa. If guys are having luck with hi-cap mags that's great..I'll have to try it. I bought factory ammo from palmetto state armory...$19.99 per box.

I think leverevolution refers to the projectile. The plastic tips in the leverevolution bullet use a softer compound so that you can use pointed bullets in tubular magazine rifles like lever action .30-30's. They use the same bullets in .45 LC ammo that is pretty popular in lever guns. The alternate name for the bullets is FTX (Flex Tip eXpanding)

I use the Lancer's for my Beowulf unmodified, runs like a Swiss watch.  I'm guessing they'll work good for the other big bores.

There is a differance with the new factory 450 mags and just using the drop in follower. The factory mags have a half round cut in the front. This really improves feeding with that fat 450. You can do it yourself to regular 556 mags with a dremel tool. But it would be trial and error to get it right. Look on GunBroker. I just got 3 new factory mags for $129 shipped.

Gents

Go to the nearest Academy Sports and get the 2 pack of the Sig 30 rounders. They fit & function perfectly right out
of the box for the 450 Bushmaster.

I personally decided to mill the follower down like I did for the 223/243/25 wssm Olympic Arms magazines, doing this
the Sig mags take an extra round

Hope this helps

The L5's work pretty well....kinda hard to load more than 10, and the rounds can be easily knocked out on the top, but once in the magwell they've worked very well.
