i know they make lowers that are dedicated to using glock mags and i was wondering if it would be possible to do something similar with a 1911 magazine?
i am not really asking if it is cost effective, just if it is doable. any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks, jake |
| It is doable.....but would be a little pricey...the fixture for broaching the mag well and the broach itself would be a chunk....a one off I'd cut with a wire EDM. If I was going to do one with 1911 mags.....I'd make a sleeve of sorts that encased the mag and used the standard mag catch....I was gonna do a magwell adaptor for someone, but I could never get around the magwell adaptor mag catch being overly complicated. |

| This again. All you need to do is make a mag catch that goes deeper into the magwell. I think Oly had some for their 30carbine magblocks. Then make a magblock. This is not a complicated project & I wish I had the time to do it but I just cannot take on any prototype work. Just no time right now. |

Tools, time, equipment, sales market, etc., are just a number of reasons I didn't continue to work on the project. If it was that simple it would have been done by now. M1 carbine mags are straight up and down in the magwell while the 1911 mag sits at an angle and touches both the front and back of a standard magwell. And they are thinner than an M1 mag requiring the mag catch to extend furthur into the mag well.
Maybe make a mag catch into the magwell block and then use a standard mag catch to actuate the catch in the block. |
