WSM case cut off at the shoulder +/-.
I played with one shortened to 1.625" as to be legal for Indiana whitetail. A 50-70 seating die worked fine, the chamber was tight enough didn't have to use the sizing die (300 WSM) very often to give the "neck" a slight squeeze. My testing in bolt rifles found that it really didn't offer much more than the 500 BFG/SOCOM. The mag length restriction of the AR platform is going to seriously encroach upon the powder capacity, again not offering much (if any) more than the basic straight walled SOCOM case. Loaded with BMG projectiles to magazine length in a Winchester WSM action, they did feed fairly regularly out of the magazine without any massaging. |
