I was wondering what the ballistics of .50 Beowolf were like. Basicly, I wanted to know the max effective range against a point (person) target out of a 16 inch barrel set up. Much appriciated. |
| Alexander Arms has a Beowulf ballistics page that has a bit of data, but effective range is not really addressed. |
The round itself is very close to that of the 45-70 in terms of performance. Hopefully CurleyMaple42 will be along to shed some light on the effective range part. Id think it would be alot like the 45-70 in terms of effective range as well. |

HEY!!! Yeh, +1 on all that. Alaskan Moose have been taken at 194yds with the 50Beo with the bullet going in one shoulder and lodging under the skin on the other side, so devastating out to 200yds, but just like most rounds like the 458S, 45-70, etc, bullet drop is the biggest issue, but if you are ready for it there is still a ton of energy there out at distance. Hell, LONG shots were taken ot buffalo in the old days and they were dropped. Not to say it was ethical, but there is a bunch of energy in those bullets even at long range. 335gr Rainiers leave the barrel at 1950fps or so. Very accurate at 100-200yds. See ya! |
