Hey all. I'd like to think that I know my way around my rifle, however, I am trying to replace my current Bushmaster XM15-E2s Upper to a flattop version (for obvious reasons). My thought was to purchase a stripper upper and transfer the guts, barrel, bolt, gas-tube, etc, over to the new receiver with the help of a local gunsmith to save my wallet some grief (who said that he would be able to do it). What are your thoughts and what specifics should I be concerned about if this is a viable option? If I purchased a "mil-spec" upper would it co-opt with a "commercial" lower? This is my first serious tinkering with my build aside from the minor changes with the hand-guard and trigger assembly. This newbie is open to anything so let me have it.

1. relax

2. get a stripped upper and do it.

3. find a local in the htf with a vice/wrench and do it yourself,  dont pay a "smith" he'll just dick it up anyways.

4.

1. get stripped upper.
2. send it and existing upper to ADCO. they do tons of work on ARs and will do it right. local gunsmiths sometimes don't.
