You'll pay about $750 for a new TA01NSN, and no, you do not shoot with both eyes open, though you can aquire your target more easily with both eyes, then close one for your shot.  The TA01NSN was built specifically for the M4 14.5" barrel, and works very well.

Which optic you should get should depend entirely on what type of shooting you want to do. ACOGs are wonderful, so are Aimpoints. But they fill different roles.

I tend to disagree with cannibal, I find shooting the TAO1 series with both eyes open is helpful. You dont have to of course.

Please take not that there are 2 different TAO1 models, the TAO1 and the TAO1nsn. They are not the same scope, TAO1 that you mention is made to be mounted on top of the carry handle on a 20" gun using M193 grade ammo. TAO1 goes for around $640. TAO1nsn is made to be mounted to the flat top of a 14.5" gun using M855 ammo. It comes with a flat top mount and built in tritium iron sights, and costs about $750 or more new.

You dont have to stick to those specifications if you dont want to, the differences in point of aim and point of impact on the bullet drop compensated reticles will be slight at 300 yards and in. Out past that and you will start to see more deviation.
