hey guys.
I've read the tacked trigger thread and didn't see this answered. I'd really like to get a single-stage trigger for my hunting AR. I like the Geissles and I realize they're awesome triggers, but I'd like to find something with less deflection before the break. To that end I'm considering a Timney. Questions: -Anyone used both the Geissle and the Timney and have thoughts? -Anyone used the 3-lb Timney with CCI#41 primers and have any failure to fires? I wouldn't worry about this but I have a large stock of SSA ammo with #41s. -Any other thoughts for a hunting (not SD) rifle that will primarily be shot off a benchrest by a guy who's used to crisp, breaking-glass single-stage triggers and wants to replicate that as closely as possible? |

I put the Timney 3lb in my AR that is used mostly for hunting. I went with single stage for the same reason, I couldn't stand the stock trigger and was used to shooting the jewel trigger in my 700.
I have shot alot of Gold Dot 223 ammo (I believe they have harder primers) and never had any issues or light strikes. I really like the trigger, mine has no creep and really nice break to it. I am soon going to be buying one for my next AR as soon as I get my form 1 back from the ATF. I haven't shot a Geissele but I did dry fire one of them, can't remember the model. The trigger was nice but I didn't like the travel in it before the break, although the reset was really short. AS far as I can tell Timney has great customer service as well, in case you run into any issues. I contacted them with a question about ordering and they responded quickly and were helpful. |

I've had a number of their bolt-gun triggers over the years and have never had a moment's trouble out of them, but I realize that an AR is a different animal altogether than a bolt gun. I appreciate the response, though.....you seem to be implying that the Timney has a crisper break than the Geissle, and that's what I was looking for. |

I've shot just about every thing thru my AR with a timney without issue. There is no creep, no pre travel, no over travel with a very short and noticable reset. The trigger just breaks. Thanks. Last year I had a failure to fire with a stock trigger with a very weak hammer spring while hunting. I got the deer, but don't want to experience that again. eta: Just ordered the Timney |

I just installed the Timney. Seems nice thus far; I'll try to get out and shoot it a bit this weekend and see how I like it. Just make sure that no lube/oil gets on the trigger pack. Mine started to double and triple. Did you adjust the disconnector? If mine won't run soaking wet with oil, it won't stay in the gun. It's on my hunting rifle, but I'll probably swap in a 5.56 upper and run it pretty hard for a few magazines to be sure it's reliable before I'm satisfied with it. |

I use to run a piston upper on the lower it came with and had zero problems. I sold the piston upper and bought a new D.I. upper and that's when it happened twice. I just need to spray it with some carb/brake cleaner. Timney advises not to oil/lube their triggers. I started a thread awhile back about this and some people had the same issues. Who knows. Maybe it was because I installed a light weight upper on it causing it to bumpfire. |

There I will STRONGLY disagree with you! I purchased an early Timney 3# trigger, had major issues with it so Timney wants me to send it back (on MY dime). Fine, I send it in, they send me a new one, it won't reset at ALL. Call Timney, explain the situation, send it back (AGAIN, on MY dime.) They send me ANOTHER trigger, this time it works fine (after I'm out $30.00 in shipping) |
