Are you locking the bolt back when you do this?

No recoil spring, no bolt carrier group?

Do you have an empty mag in? had a friend who did that and couldn't figure out why the ch wouldn't go forward until I explained it to him.

BCG is in, spring/buffer is in, and yes mag is empty, but it doesnt happen to my RRA.

sorry to go off topic but what Lower Parts kit did you use in your noveske and how did everything fit. I just orderd one and my original choice G&R is out of LPKS so I'm looking for a good one for my NOV

Well if you've got an empty mag in, thats why. The follower is holding your bolt catch up, which is locking your bolt back when you pull the CH. Hence why there is no return.

Slap the bolt catch and everything will shoot back in place. Remove the empty mag and pull the CH, and it will do the same.

empty mag = bolt locked to the rear
pull CH back with out a mag in and it should travel forward with the BCG.

wow!  I'm sorry but seriously??????????????????????????????????  does no one else think this is F'd-up. your building this gun and don't know how to operate it..Or how IT operates..

You seriously couldn't figure out why the bolt/carrier/charging handle weren't going forward?? and you had to get on the internet to ask why??? have you ever shot an AR15?

My other AR's dont do this! I know why the BCG doesnt go forward, I was asking why my 'charging handle' didnt spring back into place!

Your other AR's don't do this with an empty mag in the magwell? Then theres something wrong with your other AR's, and by the sounds of if they're missing the bolt catch spring.

ETA: Yeah... Your CH should never spring back into place unless your bolt is the one doing it... Who makes your other ARs?

The charging handle moves with the bolt/carrier.. There is no separate spring that brings the charging handle back forward.. Your other AR's cannot operate any differently than this one.. If the B/C stay back then so does the CH.. if the B/C move forward then so does the CH but the CH can move forward independently(no spring)..Pretty simple..have you ever field stripped the upper?

point is, you should know this, your building the thing..

Yeah, a little. But cut him some slack. He probably decided to build to save some money and that's fine. He obviously doesn't know much about the AR-15, that's fine too. The internet is a great place to learn about, well, anything.

Even if he bought a complete factory rifle, he would still have the same problem. What would be your question then? - "you bought a new rifle, and you don't know how to operate it..Or how IT operates" At least he came to , IMO, the best place on the internet to learn about AR's. Don't ya think. That is what the ARFCOM community is about. Not flaming, just lighten up and be a good ARFCOM member - not a bad one

Sorry Vamped.. I agree with you sbninja, what a better place to gain knowledge than right here.. I don't want to be "that internet commando guy"either...

It probably sounded more harsh than I meant it to be, as it always does on the internet..

Just took it apart, only to find the the CH is cracked at the end, causing the problem.  Time to buy a BCM Gunslinger!

Thanx to those that tried to help!

So was the CH staying in the rear (extended) position even when the BCG was forward?  If that was the case and the front of the charging handle was cracked/missing how did you charge the weapon at all?

Agreed. Whatever the case, hopefully the OP is getting it figured out.

I just wanted to point out that a lot of people who have never served in the military may have never had the opportunity to even see an AR up close, much less operate one. That doesn't mean they shouldn't buy or build one. The experience has to come from somewhere, and learning on the fly is better than never getting into it at all, IMO (as long as prudent safety measures are observed, of course).
