Hello,
My understanding is that most ar15's have a free floating firing pin. I'm aware of exceptions such as those made by HK. My questions are: * Are there any makers in the sub 1500 market which put a spring on the firing pin? * Can I install a spring myself? * If so, what would such a mod entail? Thanks! P.S. I'd appreciate if comments were kept in track with my q's as opposed to personal opinions on the matter. |

Seems like someone fooled around with the idea a long time age, but AFAIK there is not anything available.
My WAG is there is not enough material in a AR15 bolt to support the mod. There is probably something posted somewhere on the internet about it, since there is always somebody trying to ‘improve’ various aspects of the platform. |

The armalite groups have a pin spring. |

I've been looking into this for a while now and yes, from what I understand, Armalite's ar10s do have a spring on the FP.
I'm currently putting in due reading time before commencing with my build. I've narrowed it down to 5.56 and 7.62. After that, I found out most AR15's have a free floating firing pin which I'd rather avoid. On the other hand, Armalite's ar10s or HK's 416s do have a spring. Long story short, if I can put a spring on the firing pin of an ar15 to keep it from dancing on the primer all the while avoiding the price tag of the HK or the 7.62 round, problem solved. |
| My .358 HDH uses an Armalite BC and FP WITH the spring, and it does NOT keep the firing pin from putting a peck on the primer. In fact, the peck is only very slightly smaller than the peck left by the DPMS BCG and FP that does NOT use a spring. Good idea but it would be nice if it worked better. I would greatly prefer no peck at all, but every round chambered and not fired comes out with a slight peck, just like the AR-15 and the DPMS LR-308s. |
