| I just picked up a slightly used a1 upper off the EE. My question is in regards to the rear sight assembly. It appears to be the sight of an a2. it has a large aperture marked 0-2 and a smaller unmarked aperture. Are the a1 and a2 apertures the same? We have older colts at work with a1 uppers and the sights seem different? |
I actually swapped the DPMS version of the A1 (no "L" aperture - two holes that look the same) that came with the new sight I added to the upper (stripped when I got it) for that A2 aperture. I still have the A1 in my parts box if you want it, although I see I may be a little late.
I am trying to buy another C7 upper with M4 ramps now (that's how I found this thread). |

My M16 clone has te original aperture. Some years back I enlrged the short range sideof the XM177 clone a bit, but the current "go to" piece; a Commando/ Israeli carbine clone has an A2 aperture; and a square front post.
Some of the current updates are, in fact, worth having |

No, you're right. The hole on the 0-200 meters settting actually ends up making the rear sight lower (the hole is lower in the center), so the bullets hit lower than the small peep. It has a 2.5-MOA difference. When you zero with the small peep at 300 meters, flipping to the 0-2 aperture gives you a 200-meter zero for closer targets. See this thread for more detailed info. |
