as we get older our eyes like iron sights less and less.  i am thinking about getting an acog. does a good sturdy mount exist that will work with the cog and an a2 upper? or, do i need a flattop? if one exists can the iron sights still be used? any links or recommendations are appreciated. thanks.

The ACOG mounts directly to the carry handle, but it will be too high for a cheek weld (some call it the chin weld.)

As mentioned above, the ACOG mounts to the carry handle on the A2. There is a hole through the length of the ACOG base that allows irons to be used while the ACOG is mounted.

As also mentioned, you'll be utilizing more of a 'chin weld' when sighting through the ACOG.

Might think about trying an acog reflex mounted on a goose neck off the carry handle.  I've got one set up that way and it's one of my favorites and allows for a nice cheek weld; very comfortable and the acog reflex is a great optic.  Not mine but an example:

I have a TA01 on my A2.  It's a little high but nothing bad.  I love it.  I can send you a pic of it if you want.  I'm at work so it might be a while, fridays always end up being long nights.

The ACOG was originally designed to be used in a carry handle.  It will work just fine in an A2 handle.
