| having always shot bolt action rifle with the scope slung low over the barrel scope sight in was easy. line of sight and barrel bore are close. how does one sight in with a scope mounted on the a2 carry handle. with the line of sight almost 3 inches above the barrel bore it would seem that to sight in at 100 yds the bullet would have a rainbow trajectory due to bullet still rising to line of sight and would be hard to figure other ranges. im sure someone has already figured this out, so i wait your responces |

I may get flamed for this....but ....I have never had a problem with this "problem." I shoot a lot of bench work with a M700 with the lowest rings etc and so on, so I understand the drill, but I have been shooting Ar's long befor the flattops came out and have shot scopes for almost as long. I sight in my IPSC A2 Bushy AK-Shorty at 100 yards and I know that at 300 yards it is about 6" low with 62 grain bullits. The difference I find is with the really close up work, like 10 to 15 feet away, like head shots. That is where the higher sight plays against me. With my Aimpoint there is no paralex error so the perfect cheek weld is not such a big deal, if i see the dot on the target, the target gets poped, no matter how I saw the dot. Bill |

You are correct a scope mounted up on the carry handle is way to high. The only two exceptions are the Colt Scopes and the Compact ACOGs as they mount low and very close to the original line of sight. If you want more precision with your scope/rifle over a wider range you'll need to go with a flattop. |
| i realize i should go to a flap top . already have but i had gotten a mount for the a2 and had a varmit scope lying around so i figured id see what the rifle will do target shooting wise. i just need to know if anyone has ever done or knows the bullet rise above and below line of sight with an a2 mounted scope. i want to know at what range bullet crosses line of sight. how high above line of sight it will achieve. and when it re- crosses line of sight. i would like to sight in for zero at a range that the bullet will go no higher than 3 inches above line of sight. with a scope that high i figure a 100 yd zero will put the bullet way high beyond that point |

Quoted: i just need to know if anyone has ever done or knows the bullet rise above and below line of sight with an a2 mounted scope. Yep I know about it and have done it (briefly - yech too high) i want to know at what range bullet crosses line of sight. Depends on what range you zero it at. There could be a single crossover point (if you zero around 100 yards) or multiple points (on the upward & downward treks for zeros that are closer). how high above line of sight it will achieve. and when it re- crosses line of sight. Depends on: 1) Zero Range 2) Ammo Used 3) An accurate measurement of the distance from the center of the optic to the center of the bore. If you need to learn how to measure this distance read this: http://groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/measuretheheightoverbore.msnw i would like to sight in for zero at a range that the bullet will go no higher than 3 inches above line of sight. with a scope that high i figure a 100 yd zero will put the bullet way high beyond that point Ok assuming a 20" barrel, M193, at 1400' ASL, and the optices are 3.5" over the heigh of the bore (pretty typical for a scope mounted on a carry handle mount). A 60 yard zero will keep the round within 3" of the line of sight from 10 yards to just over 300 yards. Max height is around 2.7" @ 175 yard. If you supply better info on your altitude, load, and height over bore we could tweak it a bit. However, 60 yards is going to be pretty close to being optimal for what you wanted. |
