Im new to the AR world and bought a bushy xm-15 orc. Shot about 100 rounds through it and it worked perfectly and was very accurate. I bought a MWI free floater and a low profile gas block for it and wen to the range the other day. It ran perfectly and even ran a mag through it as fast as I could. The problem is with the accuracy. I would have a group of maybe two or three that were maybe an inch away at 25 yds (i was trying to sight in my barska 3x9x40). After those two or three, they would be nowhere near the paper (as far as 18 inches off!!!). I was using federal lake city 5.56 55 gr. Can someone give me some kind of advice or a suggestion on how to correct this? I would like to sight it in so that i can use it for coyote hunting and as it sits, its a little iffy even going to the range.

Buy a new scope.

Ok, rough advise but it may be true.

By MWI are you referring to Midwest Industries (referred to as MI)? Did you remove the barrel nut or just cut off the delta ring pack? Were you shooting offhand at 25 yds with the scope? 3x or 9x? That is awfully close to be using a scope in my opinion.

Was it bam-bam-bam-flyer? or shot 30 but could only find 20?

Did the screws on your mount work loose?

IT is Midwest Industries, sorry like I said Im new and im learning as I go. I grew up shooting and hunting but always just was handed whatever shotgun I was using that season and let to do my thing. I was not on a rest but i was holding tight against the side of a tree. Also, I had my dad and my uncle shoot it just to make sure it wasn't shooter error and it was one shot at a time. The speed shot was letting my dad have some fun.

I checked them a few times because I thought that was the issue but it they were tight as tight could be on the scope.

and I forgot to say i was shooting at 9x..... I was shooting so close in order to get a rough sight because it was the first time shooting the scope after  I installed the quad rail.

Barrel/ barrel nut may be loose and the reason for the shift/spead.

When the new barrel nut was installed, it's threads and the matting surfaces of the barrel extension to the nut should have been moly lubed, the barrel nut thigthened to 30 lbs and back off, again to 30, then back off, then to +35ftb to start with, then not to exceed 80ftlb as you take the nut more to index the top of barrel nut channel to the upper gas tube channel.

Also would help to know what profile on barrel, since the thinner the barrel, the faster it will heat up to start causing spraying as well (read even with a bull barrel, you still need to check your rate of fire).

Ill have to check the barrel nut, as for the profile of the barrel, I'm not positive, It is the barrel that came from factory on it. Btw thanks for the feedback, everyone.

is this your scope ? huntmaster what kind of mount do you have are they regular rings like this 2 piece or something like this pepr the reason I ask is because you do not want to bridge the gap from upper receiver to ff top rail  with your scope mounts . with the first set that can be done easily while trying to get the proper eye relief  and will cause issues with accuracy

That is the scope I have and I have two piece quick release rings. Both rings are mounted atop the receiver alone, not one on the receiver and one on the ff rail.

I'm wondering if I just totally effed up when mounting it. I am an amateur and the kind that tends to learn by doing things unless I'm really uncomfortable and ask. I'm wondering if the distance of my scope from my eye is incorrect. I won't take any criticism negatively as I like to learn everything I can about my hobbies.

Well, I'll give you one tip...........  Never mount anything to your scope. Might look cool but can cause serious problems.

that was on there for about 10 minutes. I took it off and then bought the ff quadrail.
