I bought an Acog for my M4, i just learned that there is a specific unit for it that actually says M4 in the sight picture.
the one i got is obviously for the 20 inch barrel.

how will this affect my rifle sight if at all?    do i need to sell and get the m4 unit?

thanks for any guidance on this

which model do you have exactly.. and what does it say the reticle is calibrated for on the outside of the box where the serial number and model number are listed? and i dont think acogs are calibrated to be barrel specific...

What specific ACOG do you have?  Some models are specific, but there are ways to deal with it...

Probably more important if yours is designed for a carry handle or for a flattop.  Find Bartholemews (sp) chart elsewhere on this forum.

mounts for the flat top...its close to the same unit i used when deployed. i put it on a 6920

.223 is your reticle calibration for your BDC.. you're fine..

cool!  thanks for the info, i was a bit worried.

"ACOG 4x32 Scope with Green Chevron BAC Flattop Reticle- includes Flat Top Adapter. The chevron reticle is designed to be zeroed using the tip at 100 meters. The width of the chevron at the base is 5.53 MOA which is 19 in. at 300 meters. This allows range estimation for silhouette targets. Features dual illumination (Fiber optics provides daylight illumination and tritium illuminates reticle at night). The ranging reticle is calibrated for 5.56(.223 cal) flattop rifles out to 800 meters."

My Google Fu tells me that this will suit you just fine.  You'll just have to test out the bullet drop with whatever ammo you are going to use.

Yep.. i believe the .223 BDC reticles were calibrated using 62 gr rounds and the .308 BDC reticles were using 168 gr rounds

The TA31F series uses a hybrid BDC that is an intermediary between the velocities of a 14.5" barrel and a 20" barrel, intended to be able to be used "close enough for government work" so to speak for both, and supposedly fairly well matched to a 16" barrel.

The RCO-M4 and -A4 are simply calibrated specifically for those barrel lengths.  If you're using it on a 16" barrel, chances are, you got the closest one there is.

This chart, courtesy of R0N shows the comparison of the BDC stadia for the TA31F (ACO), the TA31RCO-A4 (AN/PVQ-31A), and the TA31RCO-M4 (AN/PVQ-31B):

actually the website claims that it uses 62 grain rounds for the bdc.
i opted for the green reticle because the dealer was telling me the life of the tritium in red last like 6 years and the green was like ten to twelve years....hope thats true!
we had the red reticle when i was issued.   really helped me on the range with the 4x32...my eyes are not so young anymore.
fell in love with the thing.   i almost went with the horseshoe type sight also,...was hard to chose...to many options!
GD post that i read last night had me wondering about the M4 application.  i need to get it sighted in soon!
I have an Aimpoint CCO 2MOA with a Larue mount...i really like that too.   but the magnification sold me.

now i need to get a new BUIS that will work with the Acog.

can i post pics without membership?   do i need a host?

I also went with green with the crosshair reticle.. green is easier to pick up and the human eye can see more shades of green than any other color (hence night vision is in green).. unfortunately i wanted 1x as well as magnification so i sold my acog and bought an elcan specterdr 1-4x...

for BUIS, look into 45 degree BUIS or a 45 deg RMR..

you will need a photo hosting site to post pictures (not sure if you need to be a team member or not) i use photobucket

No worries OP, you're GTG...  I had an ACOG A4 on top of my 6940 and was extremely accurate.  I asked this very question a few years back and I'll convey to you what some sage imparted to me, "it's good enough for Gubment work".
