Okay I'm new to the site and couldn't find anything through the search option so I thought I'd post my question. I'm trying to decide on an optic for what will hopefully be my patrol rifle. Right now I life in an rural/backwoods/hick-town/small-town area. And I've been thinking about a trijicon TA11 or a TA44. Have any of you guys had much experience with these optics? And if so, what were your opinions of them? And is the TA44 any good when it comes to CQB?
Ooh yeah, almost forgot to mention. My biggest problem is that I'm stuck with an A2 upper so obviously I'm looking at a carry handle mounted optic of some kind. |

My first instinct is to tell you how much I love my TA11, however since it is going ON TOP of a carry handle, I am not sure I would like one up that high.
I am also not sure that the TA44 is worth the expense since it is only 1.5 power. If I wasn't going to get a TA11 I would look at the TA50. They are small and very compact, but they have very short eye relief. There are alot of trade offs when it comes to ACOGs. I have owned a TA50 and it was nice and compact, but like I said, ultimately it went down the road for lack of eye relief. Then I owned a TA31 that I sent down the road for the same reason..... crappy eye relief. Ultimately I ended up with the TA11 and I consider it the best of the bunch, but I don't have to use it on a carry handle. Not sure I helped or if I confused you more.....good luck.

But the 1.5x TA44 seems just about perfect for everything out to 200yards. It's really really fast up close and the eye relief is very broad (I can even shoot it at arm's length and finding the dot is not too difficult). So up close, it's really just like a 1x. However, the 1.5x also gives you that little extra edge in target id/detail that might prove advantageous out past 75 yards. The 1.5x is never going to be a flexible as a vari-power, but for a "do everything" kind of sight, it's really pretty close to being perfect. It's definitely better than a standard 1x red-dot in every aspect except that the ACOGs "dots" are never as bright as the battery-powered optics (but this is only a consideration in a very narrow range of lighting conditions) |
