a few years ago i built a rifle for 3 gun with an 18 inch spr barrell and a regular free float tube.  now i am changing the guns purpose.  I am putting a bigger scope on it and am gonna use it for a coyote gun.  can I add a bipod stud on a regular cylindrical free float tube?  if I can how would I do it and what do I need?  thanks.

Best way is to add a rail and mount for the bipod.  You can get small section of rail and screw them on from the inside, you'd have to drill a few holes if your FF tube doesn't already support such things.

It is VERY simple to do. The most difficult part is finding where to put the stud so the gun will not be rotated when placed on flat ground.

I started by finding a swivel stud with the threads long enough to work. Then get a tap with the same thread as the swivel stud. Get the appropriate drill bit to make a starter hole. Drill the hole, run in the tap, and you are done. I put some blue locktite on mine to make sure that it did not rotate.

will the tube be too round to mount a harris directly to the stud on the tube?

The Harris will mount to the tube and fit well. The hardest part is getting the hole for the stud located. You'll need to locate the center of the front and rear lug on the upper reciever. Use a long straight edge to transfer that location to the front of the free float. Install the stud and you're in business.

do all the bipod studs have standardized threads?  if so what are they?

I just went to Harbor Freight and got a tap and die set for like $20. It has a tool in there for measuring the threads on screws. If memory serves me correct mine was 8-32. It really depends on what kind of swivel stud you get, I stole mine out of a kit rather than order one.
