| Alright guys, I need some advice. I'm hoping to get in tomorrow a stripped lower reciever, lower parts kit, and fixed telescoping stock. I already have some mags and some ammo at the ready. After I assemble the lower, and slap it on a complete M4 upper, what else do I need to know? What kind of break-in should I put it through first? Am I missing anything? |

Please don’t go on this information alone! This site is an excellent resource, and I am sure that you will get a very detailed response soon. I am not an expert, in fact I am awaiting my first parts kit as well...but I did run across a page that may get you started. Go to: http://quartz2.cyberstation.net/~dwpaul/bs-report.htm (make sure you put the http:// part in) About 1/2 of the way down the page there is a section called "Before we head to the range . . ." It seems to have some solid advice. Please - again - make sure you talk to someone with experience before firing the weapon. Let us know how it goes! [:)] |

Definately swab the bore out until your patches come out clean. Don't want to grind any left over metal or dirt from sitting on the shelf into that new barrel. Also you might want to blow some canned air down the gas tube and run 1 more patch through. If you want to start a real shit storm go over to the competition shooting forum and post the topic "Barrel Break-in, Should I or shouldn't I?". If it's a chromed lined barrel disregard last sentence unles you want to do it for ammusments sake. Keep an eye on the bolt cam pin. You may want to get an extra one anyway. Some times this can show excesive wear from a new carrier and the first one or two might need to be changed kind of early in their life. Also get some spare firing pin retaining pins, extractor (with spring), ejector (ditto) etc. Lots of ammo, your ear protection and glasses are the only other necessities that I don't see mentioned. |
