| hey guys, i recently switched to aimpoint and got the PRO, but ive noticed that instead of getting a perfect dot its more of a very very small star type dot, is this normal? i wear glasses but the eotech reticles never gave me issues |

Do you have an astigmatism? Try turning down the brightness Also make sure you're focusing on the target not the dot +1 When you have an astigmatism, it makes the dot do funny things and the brighter you make it, the more exagerrated it seems to get. I have a slight astigmatism and I get that same star type dot if i turn the brightness up on my M4. I do not notice it nearly as much if I am focused on the target (as the above poster said) but if I backfocus my eyes out - then I notice the pattern to the dot. There have been posts by guys on here with worse vision than I, who Aimpoint dots end up being lines or an ' type smbol. |
| I don't know about the star type dot...no red dot is going to be a perfect do and will always be somewhat misshaped but overall it is a pretty good looking dot. I own the pro as well and i know how you feel switching over from EOTech but stick with Aimpoint...they are good optics even if they do seem somewhat primitive. |

Do you run your AP toward the rear sight or middle of the flat top? I started moving mine forward so that the front of the mount stops at the end of the upper/rail conjunction. This has helped me with the star affect and running the AP on a low setting.
Which Eotech did you have before? |

Which Eotech did you have before? i run the aimpoint as far back as i can get it while still having room to pop up the rear buis. i had a eotech xps2-0 but since i use a casv-el i wanted something that would give me lower 1/3 |
| I would try moving it forward and see if that helps. I keep all my red dot sights as far forward on the upper receiver as they will go. Most of my red dots also have a cantilever mount so that pushes it up even further. I shoot damn near NTCH so that may be why I prefer it that way. |
| i made this same thread the other day cause i bought a comp mL3 with a larue 158 mount and the dot is like a scratchy line then a crisp dot. if i get back far enough and look with my right eye the dot does starighten up alot, so its my left eye that has way more of a astigmatism. |

Back around 11years ago I bought my First Aimpoint XD 3MOA DOT From WES The next day the dot appeard oblong Wes & Aimpoint told me that I must have a astigmatism!!! Its true! I set all my Aimpoints/Iffytechs away from buis |

An astigmatism is most likely the cause of the distortion, as I suffer from this same problem with my PRO (which I love) Secondly, the most likely reason why your eye doctor did not detect an astigmatism at your exam is that it is very mild. If it's mild enough that you cannot determine a difference during an optical exam (which rarely screen for small astigmatism because it will not effect your everyday vision) then your eye doc would not be able to diagnose the issue. Like some previous posters have mentioned, decreasing the intensity of the dot should dramatically help. One additional tip, the distortion should also improve when you co-witness with your BUIS - especially the small diameter ring. Just another way to improve an already great sight picture. |

| Since the distortion moves with the optic, yours eyes aren't the issue and your glasses probably wont help much. If you think its bad enough to effect your shooting performance, I would contact aimpoint and see if they will fix/replace your sight. It's at least worth asking about. Good luck. |

Good luck. ill get my fiancee to check it out tomorrow, is it possible its the glare on my glasses? theyre pretty scratched up and glare like crazy on any kind of light, usually giving me multiple lights, my new ones will have teflon to prevent this. so could that possibly be it? i know if i use a camera the dot is perfect |

If you are using a camera and the dot is perfect, I'm sorry to tell you, it's your eyes! Exactly.. people get to fixated on the shape of the aiming point that will put a bullet where you want it....which is the whole point. Dot...circle...triangle...pentagon....Hershey's kiss....focus on what is important and you will surprise yourself on how well it works. funny, When I had a TA-11 ACOG with the triangle... it would put the dot exactly where I wanted it to... The reticle is a simple point of reference and matters little the shape. These are not long range precision optics .. there down and dirty fast and furious CQB optics for dynamic close and personal shooting of multiple targets moving at close range... |

Another way to check is to flip up your rear BUSI and look throught the smaller of the two peep sights at the dot. If the dot tightens right up then again it's your eyes. Welcome to old age! |

I add an Aimpoint 3x magnifier to go with my Comp M2 and can now dial back the brightness, take off my glasses and with my right eye the dot is as close to perfectly round as you can get and has sharply defined edges. With my left eye there is some dot distortion but not much.
The dot looks OK without the magnification with glasss on. With any magnified scope I just plain can't see through it with glasses on. I have a cheap .22 rifle scope that as well as the 3x9 maginfication, you can twist to eye piece so the focus and the field of view is crystal clear without glasses. Kind of like the adjustments on a eyepiece of a microscope. Steve |
