I asked the guys in the AK-47 ammo forum thinking they'd know what's up, since most are put nothing but wolf through the AK's ect. Well here's the question.

OK, I was looking through the Centerfire Systems catalog that just came in the mail. I noticed that Wolf had .308 for like .15-.16/rd about. How is the wolf .308? I haven't seen this before, so I was just wondering about how well it works. What do you all think. It'll be going in my G3 Clone. Thanks in advance for the help

I've always been told that it's a BAD idea to shoot steel cased ammo in a fluted chamber.

Note:  I have NEVER researched this.  But I remember problems from a while back.

The steel, not being as ductile as brass (can't stretch), ruptures in the flutes.  That equals bad news.

My roommate tested 100rds of it in his real G3 and didn't have a single problem.  Ran well and actually cleaned it up after shooting some Indian ammo.  Seems to be good stuff.

Actually HK roller locked rifles are designed to work with steel cased ammo:

Cartridge case obturation, the greatest uncertainty factor in every automatic weapon, is reduced so much by the introduction and further development of the fluted chamber and has become uniform for all types of cartridge cases, including lacquered steel cases, that operation is reliable in every situation, even under the most adverse firing conditions.

Heckler & Koch, GmbH 1970

Thanks for the link.  Like I said, I never really looked into it.

I do remember problems a few years back, but it may have been bad ammo that happened to be steel cased.  And you know what happens next...theories fly...

Before I read that I thought that it would not be a good idea either.

Since then I have shot thousands of rounds and no problems.
