| I know I have seen this posted before, however i can not find it as the search function is down. Could someone please tell me the best way to store ammo for SHTF? I know i need ammo cans and dessicant, but stripper clips? bandoleers? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. |
| The most important thing to do is to store in a dry cool environment for long term storage. The most ideal thing to do is buy surplus military ammo cans. Make sure the rubber seals are still good. Lube the seals up with vaseline so they do not dry out over the years. Throw in a dessicant pack and seal the can. The ammo can be stored this way for decades. |

Assuming you're using milspec ammo for SHTF storage: You don't need dissicant, the Army doesn't use it. Shouldn't hurt, but it's not a requirement with milspec ammo. Cans are a convenience for storage. If you're not transporting it out in the weather you can just keep it in the boxes and case it comes in. I've fired 30 plus old M193 ball that'd been in boxes in my basement that long and I've fired WW2 produced ammo without incident. The cartridges themselves are sealed at the neck and primer. -- Chuck |
