Ammoman is great - ships fast and will take anything back that you are not completely satisfied with (less return shipping).

Prices are pretty good, you usually have to look pretty hard to beat them, especially since everything has shipping included.

As far as the Wolf goes - it depends on who you talk to.  You will find those who love it and those who hate it.  The main complaint is due to either the laquer or the sealing compound used on these rounds.  They are laquered b/c the cases are steel and would rust otherwise.  Steel is cheaper than brass.

In any case, some people have no problem with the ammunition, others report that a substance gums up the chamber, resulting in malfunctions.

Of note, there is reportedly a new Wolf ammunition type which has a different coating which does not have the problems associated with laquer.  I do not know the composition of this stuff, nor do I know how to tell it from the old laquered stuff, but there is a thread here on it - do a search for Wolf ammo.

Also note that these loads are not Mil-Spec.  I do not know Wolf ballistics, but commercial cal .223 loads in general are not loaded to provide the same muzzle velocities as the 5.56 x 45 mm military rounds,  and if you are using an AR style weapon, you may notice a decrease in performance.

I do not use wolf.

As an aside, Wholesalehunter.com has the best deal I have seen on a really nice Mil-Spec Federal XM193 (M193) produced by Allied/Lake City using NATO headstamped brass.  I got 4000 rounds for $640.00 shipped.  You do the math.  This is the real stuff, clean and loaded 'hot'.

Ammoman also has the XM193, as well as Winchester Q3131A, which most consider to be equivalent.

hope this helps.

$125 for 1000rds of Rusky is kinda high... Check out www.sportsmansguide.com for deals on the rusky stuff. $88.63 for 1000rds of the rusky stuff.

The best thing about ammoman is that he's very approachable.

He's here, on the boards answering questions.

His prices include shipping.

When you order, your shipment will often go out the same day (if you ordered early enough).  Mine have never gone out more than 1 day later.

His prices also include a guarantee.  If you don't like the ammo, SEND IT BACK.

Try to find any other reputable vendor that does all that.

You're paying for the good service, and good service is exactly what you get.

I agree with Jnewt sportsmansguide is the place to go if you want to buy wolf or barnual .223. You can easily find a $10 off coupon on the internet and your order shipped will probably be under $110. They also ship fast if you call before 12 it will ship the same day. I ordered 1k rounds of .308 and it was $134 shipped compared to ammoman at $189 shipped.

I always buy from Ammoman.  I know I could possibly find ammo $10. to $15. cheaper by the case, but Ammoman has always treated me great with no BS.

I'm remembering a problem with Sportsmans Guide and some SA battle packs just a couple of months ago...

I have two words:

Refrigerator Magnets

You know you want them as badly as the ammo itself.  Admit it.

I in fact can't even see the color of my refrigerator any more due to the plethora of ammoman magnets adorning its surface.

You cannot go wrong with ammoman.com

Ammoman has great service and average prices.  I can always beat his price to my front door.

Good service IS important, but you can save a little if you look harder.

Buy the Wolf, it should be fine. I've shot piles of it. Some people have problems with it, I never seen it happen though.

Here is my experience with ammoman.  The day after christmas I had to go to Cape May NJ.   It is a 3 hour drive.   I kinda got lost for an hour or so and decided to stop and ask directions at this place.   Guess what, I just by "dumb luck" happend to have stopped at  AMMOMAN.   I had no money with me [banghead] (BIG discounts for thoes who pick their ammo up) and just wanted to look around.   They were busy as hell with orders that had come in over the christmas holiday.  Eric took the time to show me around the 4 suites that they are in.   It was really cool to walk between TRIPPLE stacked pallets of ammo it kinda gave me a warm fuzzy feeling down there.  From the short time I was there it was easy to see that eric takes great pride in his business.  I was telling him of a SA-80 Mag that would not lock in my AR.  I did not even get to tell him that I did not buy it from him before he cut me off and told me to send it back that it was covered.   It may cost me a little more but I know what I am getting is good.   If you can make to drive to jersey it is cheaper to pick your ammo up,  just call first to make sure that they will be there.
