can i use my BSA Sweet 22 rimfire scope on my Stag Arms 5.56, 16 inch carbine?
|
| You can but the parallax on the .22 scope maybe set at 50 yards which may cause problems if you want to shoot at 100 or more yards. I would look at modestly priced scopes like burris, bushnell etc if you want a decent inexpensive scope for a center fire rifle. I think these brands are a good value for common shooting/hunting situations. |

Not reccomended. Rimfire scopes have an incorrect parallax for rifle distance capabilities. The bullet drop compensation of your Sweet 22 will not match up with .223/556 ballistics. The overall heartiness of the scope will not match the firearms usage. Not entirely true. Parallex statement is somewhat true. I have a Leupold rimfire scope on a .22 Hornet. Parallex is supposed to be factory set at I think 75 yards, may be 50, I have no trouble shooting or seeing crosshairs in focus or target at 100 and beyond. My scope does not have provisions for bullet drop, nor do I think a cheaper BSA would so that is a non issue. "Most" rimfire scopes probably would not hold up to recoil of a heavy recoiling rifle. They probably would be ok on a .223. That said, it is not reccomended that a scope for a heavy recoiling rifle be used on a spring air type air rifle. It is said that the spring slap and acutal recoil in a forward direction will damage these type scopes. An air rifle specific scope is supposed to have internals braced in both directions to take care of this problem. Try it and see, |
