Buddy just got an ASA 16" upper half (wilson match barrel).  We went through a couple of humdred rounds and then all the sudden the fired case refused to eject.  He had to take it home and knock the case out with a cleaning rod (from the muzzle end)  The extractor actually cut a groove in the rim when we tried to cycle it out.  He had been shooting wolf ammo in it (I told him not to!) and it jammed after some somewhat rapid firing.  We cleaned it well and took it out with some South African Brass case.  Same thing.  Shot fime for about 50 rounds and then jammed in the same way.  This time we took a rod along and knocked the stuck case out a couple of times, but it continued to jam so here we are...  Anybody got any ideas as to what we can try to get this thing working?

Sorry to hear about your buddy being the owner of an ASA. Poor bastard! This thread is a good place to start.

Yeah, I read that a couple of weeks ago, but a lot has been added to it since.  Thanks for replying.  I got my JT and love it, but he wanted an ASA to save $30 and now it pisses him off everytime we go shooting.  It almost think it has to be an undersize chamber as the extractor will take a chunk out of the rim before it will pull the casing out of the chamber.  The only way to get the fired case out is with a cleaning rod.  Guess I'll tell him to find a smith with a good reamer.

if it's a Match .223 barrel you shouldn't be shooting 5.56 surplus in it.  that would explain why the cases stick.  try some black hills and see how it works.  i don't shoot wolf in my ARs so i have no opinion on it.

I have an ASA AR and I just bought 500 rnds of wolf. I took it out and intentionally tried to create a problem. I shot all 500 in one day without cleaning and not one malfunction. This makes about 3500 rnds through my rifle, and no problems at all. I dont know why people dont like em. Maybe I just got the good one out of the bunch. Who knows?

Edited cause im a bad spellur

a320az: With the luck you've experienced with your ASA, you should definitely buy some Lottery Tickets. I started out with problems with my ASA, and it took a while to get it dialed in, making the initial outings a real disappointment, to say the least. I've yet to gain full confidence with my ASA Upper, so I am going to replace it with a 24" or 26" Metalcraft Specialties Upper in the very near future.

a320az,

From your screen name I'm guessing that you're an airbus jockey but are you sure you don't work for ASA? [ROFL]
