I have a friend that bought a c-15.  When I looked at it , the bcg had been ground, down a lot, enough to expose a good bit of the firing pin and where it angles off is thin and sharp as a knife. I told him to replace the bcg if he wasnt going to return it. He has the idea to wait till it breaks. Im afraid this may be dangerous. Truthfully I think he is so happy to get the gun for the price, thinking I paid to much for my AR and his was so much cheaper that he is not going to replace it. I dont want to see him get hurt,he is a very good friend. Is this dangerous? I know the solution is to replace the boltgroup, but he is NOT going to do it. What do you say. He probably will read this ,but Ive already told him and better he read it here than something happen

Why in the hell does century do this shit?

OP tell your friend to pull the butchered carrier and have him order one from bravo if they sell just the carrier, if not get the entire BCG and use the other for a spare or something.

The obligatory : Pics or it didn't happen.

Have him take it to a reputable gun store and have them take a look at it. If it is dangerous they will tell him this. If your friends does not listen then, nothing you can do about that.

It might be in his best interest to go ahead to buy a $100 (at most) carrier.

ETA: I paid $70 for a Colt M16 carrier from APEX. It honestly looked like it had never been used when it arrived.

I definatly would change it. They made no attempt to cover it up,this friend should know ar s or M-16 s I dont know why he didnt check it out ..But damn Id be afraid of it , or at least want it fixed , not just wondering when its going to fail. Trying to save money is not always the thing to do .Well if I cant tell him maybe it will break without damaging the rifle or worse, then he can put out the 100 bucks and Ill feel better anyway. Im just not sure what will happen when it fails

"the bcg had been ground, down a lot, enough to expose a good bit of the firing pin and where it angles off is thin and sharp as a knife. "

Ah, you,ve never seen a real Colt Sporter BCG before. I'm sure they tried to copy the Colt Sporter down to the politically correct anti assault weapon BCG.

I got to handle a Century C-15A1 Sporter AR-15 today. What a piece of Chinese SHIT! Next to a real Colt Sporter this Century forgery it a complete joke! The handguards were pure crap! It should have an orange flash hider!

Tell your friend to get a real gun.

Sounds like a standard un-shrouded carrier, no big deal, and not at all dangerous.  Colt used them in their civilian rifles for a while.  Like the 3rd one in this photo:

Pics would help in giving advise, but I'd always err on the side of safety.

Between Apex having $70 Colt's & BCM having their's at $69 - it's a lot cheaper than the potential  the damage to the rifle, not to mention the prospect of paying a doctor to dig a chunk of aluminum out of your face.

This was the first thing that came to my mind, but the OP said that it looked as if it had been ground down, which made me think that maybe bare metal was exposed.

I am sure that is what they were going for, what gets me though is they are supposed to be colt full auto carriers ground down, they butchered one of the best carriers money can buy.

And, you dont know how it was done, was the temper of the steel changed from too much heat in grinding it down?
