I have aa barrel with the DD free float 12"....the problem is that the barrel nut contacts the gas tube....in fact the barrel nut overlaps the bottom edge of the gas tube hole on the reciever...which causes tube to bottom out on the barrel nut and it does not "float" freely... THe bolt carrier still seems to move in all the way... Will there be accuracy problems in this situation?

I called  Daniel Defence, Rainierarms..no one can give me a straight answer...I always thought the gas tube had to "float..."

Not sure about the AR10, but with the AR15, I am gonna say that if the bolt carrier key mates happily with the gas tube, and the rest of the gun functions, I would say OK.

My AR's barrel nut skewed the gas tube, and contacted the carrier key. The gun functioned, but eventually the nub at the end of the tube would wear out and probably cause leaks. Retorqued the barrel nut which was on too tight anyway.

Yes, float in the barrel nut passage or spine void for the gas tube.    If such is not lining up correctly (up and down), then the barrel nut was not correctly produced. If side to side, then you did not index the barrel nut correctly with the receiver gas tube channel.
