whats the difference between 1 in 7 twist or 1 in 9?? which one would u guys recommend??

One uses a heavier projectile. The heavier the projectile, the more spin it should have to stabilize the bullet in its flight path. Someone correct me if that's backwards.
If you're just going to be plinking with your AR, I'd get the barrel that works with 55gr ammo. That seems to be the standard, and I think the 1:9 is the generally accepted twist for that round. Of course, if you're not planning on shooting past 200yds, it probably wouldn't much matter anyhow. Again, correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not far ahead of being a n00b. |

Faster twists (1 in 7") stabilize longer bullets (not heavier).
Of course /most/ heavy bullets are also long. 1-9,1-8, or 1-7 will shoot the most common 55-69 grain projectiles fine. Some guys (like me) who shoot 75-80 grain bullets want a 1-8 or 1-7 twist so we can be assured of not having stability issues. If you want to shoot very light/fast varmint bullets less than 50 grain will prefer the 1-9 twist. Typically these guys are shooting actual varmints. |
