just got a leopold scope to put on my AR. It has ARMS mounts but are way too low, can just barely get it on the gun. Need something to raise it up some. I have a larue 12 FF rail on it now. Whats the best setup to go with to mount this? picture: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/mnorby/Misc/DSC04602.jpg still waiting for a UBR stock.... |
thanks, yeah just got the scope and that how the rings were possitioned, It can fit on the receiver ok but am afraid might be a tad close |
Best? Hands down the LaRue SPR mount. It's not even close. Junk the ARMS and go with LaRue. When LaRue is an option - LaRue is the solution. |
It's not a 'Set of rings' It's an integrated mount. The mount is built to precise tolorances. There is no need to lap the rings on the SPR. The mount also has absolute return to zero if you need to remove the optic. I've tried lesser (cheaper) mounts and rings and nothing compares. I spent hundreds of dollars on my scope, it deserves a mounting setup that will do the optic (and the rifle) justice. |

If you want to go slightly less expensive the Armalite mount is rock solid, but it is not a QD setup and does not return to zero for crap. Both Larue and ADM make mounts that are QD and do return to zero, but you pay about twice as much for that. Look at what you are going to be using the rifle for. Is it going to be a long range varmint/target shooter? Then the Armalite would be the best bang for the buck. If you are looking to use it for that use and as a HD gun, then look to one of the QD units. |

The LT-SPR is quite nice; I have two, and like them alot. Since you are not exactly starting from scratch, and it sounds like you are trying to keep the cost down, another option to consider would be a cantilevered riser. They are quite inexpensive. That would solve both of your problems...objective vertical clearance, and bridging the gap between the upper and the forearm. I suspect that when you finish assembling the weapon that you will find the optic does not need to be quite so far forward as you currently have it to achieve the proper eye relief. |
| right about scope position, till I can find what stock I want, which I am pretty sure I am holding out for a UBR then I will know for sure where scope needs to sit. I am ordering a RPS right now actually. That was my other question but sounds like might be answered already, If i want to take scope off and put an eotech on and trade back and forth with QD mounts will it be exactly accurate again? |
