Can't help you with the question about the hole but if you want to keep the accuracy potential of the free floated barrel then the bipod needs to be mounted to the handguard.

That's the BMAS front sight? I believe that threaded hole is meant to be
used only as an attachment for a sling.

+ 1 For what nrode said, too.

Get a railed front hand guard and get the GG&G bipod.  As an alternative you can get a short piece of rail, drill and tap your front hand guard and screw it on.  Mount it to that.

If you're hooked on a Harris you can get a sling swivel and bolt that to the front hand guard.

not to be a pain in the ass but do you have pics of rail drill and the other options? thanks

Typo there.

That should have read..."get a short piece of rail, drill and tap your front hand guard..."

Why is that?  Seems like a solid bipod would work just as well.

Do as I say!  Not as I do.  I think the GG&G is a lot more rugged than this Harris.  I have a sling swivel that attaches to the front rail that holds the Harris.  The GG&G clamps right onto the rail.

Edited to add this of course is an AR10 but the same shit should go for a 15'

For all practical purposes, it will.

Right..  Care to elaborate on that at all?  For all practical purposes carrying a bag of sand will be better than a bipod?   (Obviously not, just fishing for some reasoning..)

Well, you actually already elaborated for me or there is some misunderstanding in communication.  Either way, the rifle if free floated so stress wise the difference between a bipod and sand bag is arguably nil.  Therefore the function of both should be about equal, except the bipod is much more practical.  And unless you are shooting benchrest competition, of which bolt actions dominate, then practicality should reign.  My $0.10 anyway.
