| Is the bolt release supposed to pivot freely on the spring pin that retains it? Mine is tight, and the release sticks. Any ideas on how to fix this? |
It WAY tighter than that. The hole has to be out of spec; I've reamed it out with a drill bit and it still doesn't fit properly. My only options are enlarge the hole, get Armalite to replace it, or ditch it and buy some quality parts. Since the selector detent was also out of spec, I'm leaning towards the ditching option

| I got a bolt release in an RRA kit that had a lump of excess metal on the sides. It did the same thing. I took my dremel to it to get rid of the lump and it works perfectly now. I'd tap out the pin and see if you can move the release around in the "slot" freely to be sure the part isn't binding on the sides. |
Dont drill anything on the lower! There are three reasons for the bolt catch to be sticky - in order of most common: 1. Bolt *catch* roll pin hole is too small. The hole in the lower should fit the roll pin very tight! The hole in the bolt catch itself should be loose, to allow it to pivot freely on the roll pin. It is common for the small bolt catch to have an undersized hole and cause this to stick. Just drill it out or replace with in spec parts. 2. Bolt catch is out of spec, and too wide/rough. Sandpaper both sides to polish/remove metal until it fits nicely and smooth. 3. Lower is out of spec/rough/has trash in the catch hole. Get some fine sandpaper and clean up the inside of the hole lightly, clean the area with a small pick, ensure there are no rough spots, poor machining, trash, etc... |
