Did you break one of the 'ears' that hold the trigger guard on the grip side?

If so I beleive magpul makes a grip with the trigger guard pin molded in to replace the 'ears'. Otherwise not having the trigger guard should not hamper the function of the lower other than being a safety iss for the trigger.

2 posts.

2 broken lowers.

Coincidence?

I think not.

2 this is certainly an expensive lesson you learned.

You need to support the ears of the lower with wood or something similar as a brace.

You can just keep all the damaged lowers no real need to dispose of them in my opinion. Use them as further training tools.

Do post some pictures of those lowers to see what really happened to them and to see where they broke.

Use some JB Weld and put the ear back on.  File to a smoothness that you want and touch it up with some spray paint.  Better than having a $100+ paper weight!

You can get as many new ones as you like but you have to buy them. Just cut the other ones up with a band saw.

Who says he learned the lesson, it is his second one. (Sorry, just being a smart ass OP. It's all in good fun.)

Fantomas has given you some good solid advice hitman48. I've assembled 8 lowers & have never broken a trigger guard "ear" mount using a block of wood as a support. (Knock on wood. ) Another bit of advice, & something I do, is lube up the "ears" & roll pin before driving the pin in.

I was hesitant at first building my ars and hearing about people busting ears, well i just read alot and decided to use a pair of vise grips with tape, the stupid roll pin still ate through all my tape and i scraped a little paint on the bolt release roll pin boss but i didn't break anything on either lower, just take your time.

If you broke the ear off just buy a Magpul MIAD "Full" grip, install the front strap that has the trigger guard attacked, smooth and blacken the edge where the ear broke off and go shooting.  Never look back.  It it was the ear that broke off, support of the bottom side is essential as you are trying to tap the roll pin into place.  I worry every time I put one together but haven't had the misfortune of breaking one yet.

I preach this all the time....

Polish the pins

Use roll pin holders and roll pin punchs

Use a bench block to support...wood block will work

Lube the shit out of the pin and the lower

If it doesn't feel right...STOP

I agree with the "send it to me" reply.  I can use that lower as a paper weight.  :)

OMG.....not this shit again!!  Caution to all newbies.  Read historical posts.  Someone does this at least once a week it seems.

Sorry for your loss and no it cannot be sucessfully welded back on.  7075 alloy is not structurally weldable.
