Is it normal for the buffer retaining pin to chip the face of the buffer. there small but it is happening. If it is not normal how do I make it stop. Thanks in advance

See the notch on the bottom of the carrier that is there to clear the buffer retaining pin?

Oftimes that notch has rough edges.  Use a dremel tool and first lightly go over the edges of that notch.  Then, using the abrasive rubber polishing wheel, polish those edges.

That will stop the buffer from being chewed up.

If it's around the outer edge it could be the buffer impacting the buffer retainer pin. Check it by making sure the carrier pushes the buffer away from the pin as you close the rifle, that is with the pivot pin in place as you close the two receivers together you should be able to see and feel the back of the carrier hit and push the buffer away from the retainer pin.

+1 on chances are that it isn't the buffer retainer detent, but a rough edge on the back of your carrier

The only time the buffer toches the buffer retain pin is when the rifle is open.

You have a bur on your carrier.

Over time, the back of the carrier will wear away the finnish on the buffer.  It is nothing to worry about, so don't go grinding and polishing anything.  Especially not the buffer retaining pin.  That is just stupid.

Yea it just means you doing everything right. Keep shooting her. And when you decide to replace the buffer also replace the spring. (visa versa)
