The receiver extension (buffy tube) was not installed in far enough to correctly retain the pin (end lip of the tube should almost kiss the center post, and be over the outer edge of the retainer), which allow the retaining pin to semi walk out of the receiver hole, and get chewed/snapped by the carrier
If an A-2 stock, then something was out of spec, and the edge of the tube did not protrude into the receiver far enough for the almost center post kiss. If a carbine stock (and a cheap one to boot), then the end of the tube was not trimmed correctly to get the correct butt stock index, and the end of the tube to just kiss the center post. Bottom line, bring us up to speed on the config of the rifle, the brand parts being used, and we should be able to help you correct the problem so the rig does not eat any more buffer retainers. P.S.
