anyone have a fix that works to get rid of that twanggg noise ???/
12/22/2016 7:42:03 PM EDT

JP Silent Captured Spring works pretty well.  Comes at a price though; ~$150+ depending on which version you get.

damn 150 I might be able to tolerate it for that price lol

A light coat of grease on the inside of the buffer tube and on the spring and no more "sproing!" in my rifles. Give it a try.

Why that is what it does.

Geissele Super 42 spring and buffer combo eliminate a lot of noise and feel smoother shooting imo

ok thanks ill try the grease first then the geissle
12/22/2016 8:14:52 PM EDT
[#10]
what kind of grease do you use?
12/22/2016 8:18:51 PM EDT
[#11]
A good coating of synthetic wheel bearing grease will calm it down quite a bit. Also if you replace the standard spring with a chrome silicone round wire it will help also.

Ya, buy a different type of gun, this system has a twang, we loved to hear it in combat, meant our buddies were still fighting.

$6 chrome silicon spring, spikes or kaw valley buffers with tungsten powder in them instead of weights. Grease on the spring.

They have crappy life for the price. Sprinco and Damage Industries are both better springs for less money.

Bill is proud of his product, doesn't mean its the best value or even the best product.

IIRC he says they're good for 50,000 cycles. Damage springs are good for 750,000 cycles and don't need fancy buffers to let them fit in your rifle. Not to mention they're $6.

I think my standard spring stopped doing the noise after about 500-800rds.
Also, I noticed when I start using Sprinco springs, they eliminated the noise too.

I remember I found the twang very noticeable with my first AR. I believe I did the grease thing.

Never bothered with any of my other Ars , not sure if I became hardened or if the guns mellowed out with time.

I will have to listen next time I shoot.

I wonder if the OP is a new shooter? Whatever.

It's funny, I can hear the twang in two AR's. Suppressed subsonic 300 SBR, and an 18" with Noveske's Intermediate Gas System pounding on a rifle length buffer/receiver system. That rifle is super twangy.

I don't know. When the upper rocks back and forth a little it's so loose, it's kind of annoying.  One came in my Colt A2 20"er and I've always left it in.  But I didn't buy it specifically.

As far as the sproing goes.  There's nothing to fix.  It's just how it is.  I don't notice it on my carbines but on a fixed stock, then yeah, I hear it.

I asked the same thing when I first shot my AR.  But it's just how it's supposed to be.  Trying to fix it is like dumping salt all over cake.  Or something like that.

Buy a low density sponge. Put one biscuit an inch or so long in the spring. Stops it dead. Craig

I'm not too up on greasing the buffer tube. Your cheek/ear are seated to a large spring, its going to happen.

Sounds like ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FREEDOM.

Well said new guy...

I never worried about things like the Spring noise, or the roundness of my Dot, or the fit of my upper and lower...

Guess I was too preoccupied  on things like Sight picture and trigger control and manipulation of the gun and getting rds on the target quickly....

But if it bothers you, load up your buffer tube with grease... problem solved.
