'Recently bought a new RRA and was wondering... On average what's the life expectancy of the average buffer spring? Bolts crack, barrels get shot out, other bits and pieces break down, but how long will the buffer spring last... and how will I know it's worn out? |

According to Info I got from another poster: as per Bushmaster's Armorers Manual: Rifle Spring should measure 11 3/8" min - 13 1/2" Carbine Spring should measure 10 1/16" - 11 1/4" less than... trash it. Also dont take a short Rifle and put it in a carbine.  The longer spring in the pic is a 12 year old Bushmaster Spring with 14K rd count the shorter one is a brand new one from BCM There is no specific rd count or "feel" as far as I'm concerned. Go by the length. Most guys won't shoot enough to even wear out a spring anyhow... |
Harv24, I luv ya, man!  You saved me some serious bucks as I had almost convinced myself to replace my perfectly good, in-spec Colt buffer springs with new CS springs. I'm normally a cheap bastard but I almost did it. I'll provide the beer next time we meet at Boone County. Cheers!
