If you limit the full rearward travel of the buffer-B/C, you can run into troubles with the bolt not locking back after the last shot out of the mag. If you are trying to soften the buffer blow to the back of the receiver extension, then really you just want to change out the buffer bumper to a softer design bumper. Not saying that this is better than the standard buffer bumper, just softer, www.buffertech.com/ar15.htm |
Don't worry about the buffer wearing out. It already has a urethane bumper that will out last a lot of other parts on the rifle. Basically, the buffer comes back and the bottoms out on back of the receiver extension (urethane on aluminum). The weights in the buffer move back and stalls the buffer at the back of the stroke. If you start inserting additional materials to the bumper/tube, then this screws up the dwell stall time of buffer, since the buffer is now slightly rebounding off the back of the extension before the weights make a full rearward movement. By installing additional materials, you just have a solution in search of a problem (or a problem if the insert twists and wedges), or a problem since the insert blocks the receiver extension weep hole (hole in the top butt stock screw) and now the extension will not drain if water gets into the tube. |
