| What kind of performance differences (or failure modes) would you expect to see between a high quality mil spec standard carbine buffer kit and a cheapo Chinese one? |
|
I cannot speak to the chi-com, but have had a couple of shitty PSA 6061 receiver extensions.
The differences are obvious on the inside. The rough inner finish makes for a noisy action spring. I mean very noisy. Just charging the rifle with one sounds like hell. The PSAs I had looked like they were bored with a wood auger. I have never had to mortor one, or butt-stroke an enemy, but arfcom lore presents these as the points for failure mode. Of the dozen tubes I have in use they consist of VLTOR, Daniel Defense, and BCM. They are all very smooth, and some have the dry film lube that helps with the SPROING noise that many complain about. |

The "cheap Chinese ones" are garbage. They tend to suffer from large spring tension variances, oddly weighted buffers, and the cushion pinned to the rear of the buffer also sometimes disintegrates after some amount of higher round count use. For the small difference in price, its well worth getting quality parts that you know won't fail. When I decide on a new build, I don't want anything with a "Made in China" sticker going into it. Also, check out LMT if you want a great receiver extension/kit. Very high quality parts and the consistency is there because everything is made to mil-spec. Same goes for BCM, DD, Vltor, etc. All great companies to buy parts from with no worries of future headaches. |
