When I install the buffer tube on my lower receiver I find two possible ways to set it up in regards to the buffer spring retaining pin:

1)  The buffer tube is just BARELY covering the lip of the retaining pin and there is a small gap between the tube and the "nipple" of the retaining pin.

2)  The buffer tube is FIRMLY against the "nipple" of the retaining pin almost to the point that I have difficulty depressing the retaining pin even with a flat-head screwdriver.

There is no in-between.  The first is firm but in my mind I worry about it when I start firing the gun.  The second one seems too tight.

Which one do I choose?

mine was the same way, and I settled on #1 which is barely holding the pin in place. Works fine

Kind of tricky isnt it?

In the end though, the instruction offered on this site- can't remeber exactly where- but I think it is in the HOW TO section- was dead on.

You turn the buffer tube just past the point of perfect- to hold it in place- then turn it back about a 1/4 turn and click- its in place

read the instructions offered and it will become clear
