I have questions about the buffer
I see several mentions of rifle and carbine buffers and springs, what is thdifferencece between the two does it make a diffrance if you use the fixed stock or collapsible stick with a 20" barrel? |

The rifle buffer & spring are both longer than the carbine buffer & spring. I personally run heavy carbine buffers in all my guns - but I have no rifle stocks, only collapsibles of various types. No difference between fixed or collapsible stock with any barrel, except to the extent you have a personal preference as to LOP and "feel." Use whatever's most comfortable. |

so I should have any issues with using a collapsible stock and my 20" rifle barrel? No; the Canidian military does this with the C7A2. http://www.coltcanada.com/c7-page.htm As stated before: The A2 (full size) stock get the rifle spring and buffer; the adjustable (M4 style) gets the carbine spring and buffer.

The spring and buffer are matched to the STOCK, not the upper. Rifle spring and buffer with fixed stocks, that use a rifle length buffer tube. Carbine bufffer and spring for collapsable stocks with carbine length tubes.
Gas ports are sized to barrel lengths to give roughly the same force on the bolt carrier regardless of which upper it is, so stocks and uppers are theoretically interchangable. Obviouslly, some fine tuning may be nessacary when parts are mixed and matched from different manufacturers, Brand X may have a slightly larger gas port than brand Z, and may need a heavier buffer, or if you plan on shooting Wolf and Tula Ammo, you may need a lighter buffer and spring. As a rule, you should be able to mix standard stocks and uppers however you want and still have a functioning rifle, with standard ammo. I've had a carbine stock and buffer on my 20" upper for years, never had a problem. |
