I never understood why some Manufacturers do that. Maybe you can get a small hobby file or a dremmel and remove the burs that way.

Good luck,

Brute force is about the only way if it is staked.  On the off chance it has loc-tite, apply some heat (propane torch) and bang the wrench with a hammer to jolt it free.

Because they come loose if you use your rifle hard.

Get a good spanner wrench and take it off. I have never had a problem with them.

[>:/]  Maybe because that is the PROPER way to install the castle nut, and is called out in the -23&P.  Most people will bitch and complain if their castle nut comes loose when shooting - staking is how that is prevented.

As pointed out above, the usual way to remove it is 'brute force' with the proper wrench.  Some people use a dremel (very carefully) to remove the staked area or at least weaken it.  If you go that route get a new receiver end plate.

Put the spanner wrench on and give the wrench handle a good whack or two with a rubber mallet. A good sharp smack with the mallet works much better than just turning the wrench really hard.

I just ran into this while trying to swap out the endplate on my M&P-15.  I actually broke two of the armorer's wrenches trying to remove it!  I finally got it off my applying just the smallest amount of heat from a propane torch, with the flame angled away from the lower.

HTH!
