| Im looking at some some lowers and they advertise one as being or having some ceramic in it and its like 20 bucks cheeper than the standard alum.. and that its more durable is this true or should i stick to the Alum |

That's what I was thinking, but he didn't say 80%. I don't know of any 100% manufactured receivers in CMX. |

I bought one of these from Tannery Shop several years ago.
It machines just like a cast lower. The big advantage from a home shop perspective is they don't need anodizing to obtain their wear resistance. I would not know; I don't shoot it enough to see any abnormal wear. |

Yes supposedly you cant anodize them because of the ceramic content.
They are allot more work than the forged lowers. You have to file the mag well allot. The top surface of mine had to be filed or machined down by about 0.03. And because of that I had to re-cut the 1.5" diameter curve that mates with the uppper. Couldn’t just slap it in the drill fixture and go. Need to check by measuring from the top surface to the bottom of the mag catch pocket, it should be 0.335. I’d check allot of other dims too before starting. Not a bid deal if you have a milling machine. I'd pay the extra and get the forged ones. And if you didn’t want to send it off to get anodized, put 3 or 4 coats of cerakote on it. And maybe gunkote over that if you wanted a different color. You can get cerakote at caswell plating. |
