hello, I want to change my Upper from a carry handle to a flat top. I have changed Barrels before and did not check headspace, can I change the upper and not check headspace?Thanks, Tom

Headspace is set between the barrel extension and bolt. The upper does not normally effect headspace. Go for it.
For changing barrels, get yourself some headspace gauges before you have an unexpected surprise.

Just to add, IMHO
New barrel with new bolt combo, typically don't need gauges. New barrel, new bolt from different sources, should check headspace.
New barrel old bolt or old barrel new bolt, definitely need to gauge headspace.
