I recently bought a Bushmaster ar15 and after shooting up the UMC ammo that came with it I purchased some Wolf ammo - the really cheap stuff. This ammo would not shoot good, about 3-4 times in a 10 shot clip the spent shell would eject but a new round would not load. I assume it is because of a lighter power load int he cheap shells. I took the buffer out and took about half of the weights out and tryed shooting again. It wasn't much better so I took all the weights out of the buffer this time. It shoots the cheap ammo fine now but I wanted some advice on weither this is an acceptable fix. I don't plan on shooting any hotter ammo without the weights being in the buffer and when this ammo is gone it will be my last cheap stuff.

The ten-round factory magazines that come w/ Bushmaster rifles are junk IMO, get yourself some quality USGI 20 rounders w/ the alloy followers or the USGI 30s. This might help with functioning.

BTW, modifying your stock buffer in-order to shoot cheap ammunition is NOT something most of would ever do, YMMV, obviously.

I was thinking the same thing:

Early Edgewater Buffers  In spite of design and manufacturer shortcomings, I would like to see someone manufacture some repro Edgewater buffers.

As we all know, these don't work well with ball powder.  Am planning on loading some of my own M193 with IMR powder.  So not sure how big a hit this would be.  Did have an idea, my experience is that Wolf ammo has low port pressure, maybe that stuff would work?  One of these days I will test fire my 601 clone on my buddy's registered receiver on auto.  Will try some Wolf, should find out real quick if port pressure is correct.

In case you don't know, the early Edgewater "buffer" was no buffer, it was simply a recoil spring guide in function.  No heavy weights in it.  I appreciate your logical deduction, and carry thru.  Sounds like I won't have to reload for my early clone rifle, Wolf ammo it is.

I have never had a problem with wolf ammo. It does feel underpowered but it cycles my RRA everytime.

Does it ever malfunction on the better ammo?

I have been shooting WWB lately. It is 8.02 for 40 rounds after tax at walmart. Pretty good stuff.

its MAG, not 'clip'--www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=331010

the 10 rnd bushy mags are kinda stiff when loaded full
my 10rnds would not reliably feed even quality .223 ammo, same problem you have

wolf runs fine in my bushy....but i use only USGI mags

While Wolf does have a significant difference in felt recoil from both my XM193PD and q3131a, it cycles my 16" Bushy just fine.  I have the "heavy buffer" installed in my vltor modstock buffer tube.

PS, I'm using 30rd USGI mags.

I have a couple WOLF range pick-ups.... they is hollow point,  pulled (1),  the bullet is HP, and exposed lead at base, 58gr,  had 21.5gr  of a ball powder..... sounds like a wimpy load to me...  I'm loading 26.5gr of  748  or WC-844  with M-193 bullets.

Wow, that is really a weak load.  Figures though, when you look at the low MV.
