[ARCHIVED THREAD] - cleaning question

i have a 16 inch CMMG ar15 and i clean the entire gun with Hoppe's no. 9. it is also what i clean my springfield armory xd9 with. i am a beginner with ar15s and hoppe's no.9 is what i already had in the house,from my pistol, so it's what i clean the rifle with.
i have yet to read anything from anyone that says they use Hoppe's no.9 to clean their rifle. am i making a bad choice by cleaning my ar with Hoppe's no. 9?

Lots of people use Hoppes no. 9 at least as a part of their cleaning regimen. I am surprised you haven't seen references to it.

Hoppe's is just fine, as long as you use an oil for lubrication.

I used Hoppes #9 for years on my AR’s. Nothing wrong with it at all.
