I have a spare range tool [ no roll mark] lower and am thinking of doing a 6830 rep with it, my question is barrel choice
it looks like they were 16" carbine gas H barrel config? as in the front is .750 profile all the way to the threads?
I can find a green mountain barrel in phosphate, but its m4 profile, and a BlackRifleArms barrel is nitride and Adco says they wont pin the nitrided barrels and I don't trust myself to pin the A2 style sight correctly.........

so, does anyone know of an H bar profile 7.62x39 AR15 barrel in park/phosphate? that I could send off for the sight pin?  seems most are nitrided these days........

thanks

I think this is a Bushmaster barrel, but it should be phosphate:
https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ad/1287820.htm

Has the front sight already pinned.

thanks for that, I will call them regarding whether the front sight is "F" marked or non......I notice the description says non-chrome lined for easy headspacing, I have never heard it said quite like that, I will assume its actually ready to install, I have the gauges for the go-nogo so checking isn't an issue, but I cant/wont make any changes.......beyond my capabilities lol

I also found this one since I posted that might work:
http://www.tntesales.com/7-62x39mm-h-bar-16-4140-barrel-chrome-moly-kit-1-10/  but I have no experience with top notch top end vendor and all searches I find are from the earlier days when parts were harder to get??

I thought I had more, but don't see them in my saved list........

**EDIT** Maria got back to me, its a non "F" marked sight base so perfect for an A2 upper !!!!

I don't think I would be any help in finding the barrel.  However I do have a 94 r6830 in the back of the safe if you have any questions or need any pictures.

<-- Raises hand

I have been trying to do a little research on mine.
Where did you find the year? I tried the Colt site, but they don't seem to like my ser (LH0080xx).
Mine has a tele stock and thinking it should have a2?

Sorry for the late response, just saw this.  I called Colt and they looked it up, this was back in 08 when I bought the rifle so they may not do this any more.  I looked at my notes, first quarter of 1994.  It does have the ban features, no bayo lug, sear block.  Colt started this early though.

As for the stock I'm not sure.  Mine has the A2 upper with A2 stock.  No detachable carry handle.  LH010XXX.

Same as mine, but collapsible stock, and I don't remember it having the sear block. I know my other one does. That one does show up on the Colt ser number lookup- 1996 CR6724.

I'll have to check when I get back home, but that won't be for another 2mos. Maybe call them and see if I get bored in the mean time.

Hmm.  This got me doing more research on this.  There were 3 6830 models.  R6830, R6830dc, and MT6830.  R6830 is A2 upper, A2 stock. The R6830dc model is a flat top upper with detachable carry handle. The MT6830 is A2 upper with adjustable stock.  There is more info out there now than there was back in 08.  Strangely enough this rifle was my first AR and the reason I joined this site.

It turns out mine is a pre ban, I was not sure before.

oetkbyetdia, it looks like yours may be the MT6830?  It would explain the stock and I think colt stopped installing sear blocks when the awb did not require it.  It was just Colt trying to exempt themselves from the coming ban at the time.  It would not explain the lower serial number though, from what I have seen all MT's are post ban.  Strange.  Unless it's as simple as someone swapped the stock before you got it.

The only factory complete 7.62x39 ARs that I am aware Colt ever manufactured are the R6830 and it's post-ban version, the MT6830. Both had A2 stocks, A2 uppers and 16" barrels.

Colt also offered complete upper receiver assemblies/"conversion kits". The R6850DC is a 7.62x39 upper receiver assembly with a flat top receiver and a 16" barrel while the R6851DC is the same but with a 20" barrel.

As the "DC" suffix was used in their conversion kit nomenclature, I doubt that there was ever a R6830DC factory complete rifle with a flattop upper receiver. I have never heard of any first hand accounts of one or seen references to one in Colt's literature, either.

In the picture above, the lower rifle is a R6830 lower receiver with a R6850DC upper receiver conversion kit, a M4 stock and M4 hand guards.

Thanks!

That magazine is a preban USA 25 round. I would call it more of a hybrid than a frankenmag, USA basically grafted their own upper part of an AR mag to the lower part of their own AK mag. The actually work well and may be the only decent product that USA ever produced.

With S/N info he provided, his should be a pre-ban R6830. It should have come with a sear block as well, but as at some point the A2 stock was swapped out for telescoping stock, it is possible that the sear block may have been removed as well.

At some point in the later 1990s Colt stopped installing the obnoxious pinned in sear blocks and instead began to leave a web of aluminum towards the rear of the receive andr, if I recall correctly, not mill the floor of the receiver as deeply to prevent the installation of the F/A trigger parts.

It's a preban I picked up ~2000 at the Puyallup Fair show.

Swapped stock is what I was guessing.
Sear block I am not sure on. I know the other one has it, but didn't think both did. Def no marks from removal if it isn't there. Could be smokin crack though.

I'll have to dig it out when I get back home. Box should still be on the shelf so should be a model number on it.
