Didn't all receivers have to be registered before the select fire ban date? All others since then are LE/military only, no civilian ownership.

Kind of like the guy who found an original Thompson in a wall of his house complete with sales receipt and ammo from decades ago. Could he keep it? Nope, as it was never registered so off it went.

But there are others here with way more info.

It had to be manufactured and registered with ATF as a full auto before May 19, 1986. There is nothing he can do with it now except make a semi auto.

The SP2 was built as a legal semi auto piece; so unless he (or someone) turned it into a select fire rifle illegally at some point in the past, he not only can't register it. he's already in violation of the law.

My suggestion.  Pull the upper assy, strip the lower of all usable AR15 parts, and destroy the lower.

Shamayim, I don't believe the OP is saying that the lower is in a full-auto configuration now. I think he was asking if the receiver was manufactured before the MG ban could he file the paperwork to convert it now. It doesn't matter when the receiver was made. It had to have been registered as a full-auto with ATF before May 19, 1986 to be legal for him to own.

Now if the receiver has been converted to full-auto configuration and is not registered than you are correct. He is already in violation of the law and the receiver is contraband.

I dont know if Selective Fire will work with a Registered DIAS but that or a Lightning Link are the choices. I have a nice SP1 Produced in 1979 and those are my only options. Selective fire is for Second Lt's anyway. Keeps them from dumping full mags.
Trigger control works as well as Selective Fire. Otherwise, There is a super short travel trigger available (30 Thousandths). Make your fingers faster.
