Colt would know by the serial number but just measure it if you have someone you know with calipers to check the large are .170 and small .154.Or take out the hammer pin and if you have spare parts try and see if it fits a standard disconector or any part of the FCG you can check.

yup use a caliper... IIRC Colt started using milspec trigger pins a couple of years ago (late 2008/early 2009?)

I'm not positive on the serial numbers but I believe around serial number 55,000 they went to small pin .In the industry section go on the Colt forum and ask the guys that go on there, they seem to know and awful lot about Colt AR'S.They should be able to put you straight.I have one that's small pin and the serial number starts at 71,000.

if you bought it after march 09 is likely small

if its older then 09 then its large. no doubt about it

I called colt last week and was told I had a small trigger pin.I called again yesterday to confirm it and was told that my pin size was .170....I'm not handy with taking it apart to measure it so I'm still in the dark about it.You guys know of any smith I can just send my lower to and have a better trigger put in.It seems as if that some smiths only work with the small pin and others only with large pins.Who works with both.If I have this much hassel over a trigger job I just might dump the colt and get a mini.I live in a very remote mountain area and it's tough getting things done.I only want a semi for coyote hunting anyway.

as already suggested get a digital caliper and measure them, then you know for sure. or dump the colt like you said and get a mini 14.

Order the Geissele SSA in either small or large pin. You can easily install it yourself, one helluva trigger!

To install the trigger your going to have to drive the pins out anyway might as well do it now and measure.

It is really not hard at all.  In truth you dont even have to drive a pin out all the way or at all to know the DIA of the pins. Use a 5/32 drill bit for a size ref.  Are the pins "about" the "same" size as a 5/32 drill bit? If they are larger in dia then you have the large pin lower.
