ok guys dont hunt me down and shoot me for this question, but i would like to buy a nice hard case for my soon to be new ar15. i see pics on here with the foam inside nicely holding and molded to all the guns and accessories inside. how do you you do that? is it a thick layer of foam underneath with a thinner piece of foam that you "cut" to shape to fit everything then on the top? im sorry if its a dumb question. i just dont have any gun cases like that for my pistols, i carry all the time so they dont see cases to often. this will be my first rifle. thank you guys

I'm just shooting from the hip here as I do not own a hardcase, nor do I have the need for one.  Hell, I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

The Pelican cases (and all others, too, I imagine) have three layers of foam, and it is the center of the foam that is cut to shape for your weapons.  Alot of guys then glue the center layer to the bottom to prevent shifting.

A further recommendation is to use an electric knife to make the cutting easier, and/or freeze the foam before cutting.

no-knock got it right.  That is exactly what I did in my Pelican case.  The only problem is that I have since changed my equipment around and now need to find some new foam and start all over again.

You select the shape and size. Its alot cheaper than ordering from pelican.

Just got my starlight case and have cut in my rifle and a couple of mags. I'm still deciding what else is necessary. I need a place for batteries (I like the surefire battery holder above) and some other essentials.
