? - No insult implied, but how much experience do you have on a lathe? Home ground HSS is good enough, but if you want carbide why not those cheap brazed bits on 3/8" steel? As far as tool holders get, I dunno. I think KDK is the best lathe tool system around, closely followed by the Aloris type. |
| my lathe work was in oilfield eqp, so a small thread fo me below 3" and that was mostly id. work. In the past I have used several brands of holders and inserts, I prefer to use inserts for accuracy and repeat performance, and grinding a first class cutter and keeping it sharp is a pain. |
