| I bought this upper complete about 8 years ago. It's all LMT; bolt, receiver, bbl, everything except HG. Flattop carbine, 16" bbl with A2 fsb. Over the summer it came in contact with water. I cleaned it thoroughly but my dumbass stored it in a soft case that wasnt completely dry so it got a case of surface rust. Wasnt terribly upset. I wanted to put a free float HG on it anyway so I took it to a local GS and they tore it down for me and they only cleaned off all the rust. Awesome. I bought a Seeking NOXs ff HG for it and instead of buying a low profile gas block I decide to cut down the A2 to save some money. It took a few times to get it right cause apparently this HG has tight tolerances. No problem. Now I also cut down that little plate that goes behind the fsb that holds the HG in place to use as a spacer so there wouldnt be any issues when reinstalling the gas block. I reinstall the barrel myself and torque to 48 ft/lbs per the Seekins install procedure (35-55 was the range). No problem. I did some reading on head spacing and from what I gathered you really only need to if you're building with bunch of different mfgrs. This is all LMT and the rifle was flawless before so I didnt bother. Take it all back to same GS to have them install the gas block because of those PITA roll pins. They get it all back together and test fire 3 rds, no problem. Awesome. I go to the range Sunday to sight in my new vortex PST scope and all is going well. Using 10 rd pmag. Put 5 rds down range, check placement, adjust turrets, rinse/repeat. No problem. By the way this is WWB (Q3131) Im using. First time ever trying it. After about 15 rds, I try this 10 rd steel mag, same ammo, and I start having feed issues. Either it would fail to feed entirely or try to feed it all caddywhompus. I pull that mag and toss in a 30rd pmag of LC xm193 (this is all this upper has seen prior to). I start going thru rds and my eyes start tearing up from the gas just spewing out of the ejection port. I get thru about 10 rds before calling quits. But they cycled no problem. I had a WTF moment, check the bcg and gas port. No blockage. Reassemble and go back to the 10rd pmag of wwb. This is when it stopped cycling all together. Get off one rd and seems as if bolt is not getting ejected back far enough to grab another rd. Go thru 10rd like this before throwing in the towel. I hope I can chalk this up to just being dirty from those 10 gasy rds but Im not sure. The paranoid version of me thinks maybe A2 sights arent meant to be cut down. Im going to give it a good cleaning and go back to the range but it will be some time cause I have hip surgery friday. If anyone has some input/suggestions it would be much appreciated. |

so how dirty was it when you got it home and cleaned it ? how wet did you run the bcg when you took it out ? did you keep any of the fired cases or look for popped out primers or any high pressure signs? I havent gotten around to cleaning it yet. I had to leave town for work sunday evening. Just got back. As for the BCG I always coat it with Birchwood Casey's Barricade after each clean but it had sat for a bit. I didnt think to look at the spent brass. Besides it got mixed with other casings. I wasnt going to sort thru that. What are signs of high pressure? |
